Bricks and blooms: London gardens in spring

Spring flowers London

In the week of the Chelsea Flower Show here’s a look at the humble suburban front garden.

There’s something of the irresistible force of nature in a London spring. Whereas in winter it’s all brick and bluster, spring’s fecundity of growth and blooms seem to overrun the dreary, built-up up infinity, and the buildings rather provide a canvas for nature’s evanescent still life: laburnums, wisterias, magnolias, clematis- often untended by uncaring busyness- but not unlovely. I’ll miss the promise of summer. The temperatures are about the same between London and Adelaide, but our nights are lengthening as your days extend. Until next time.
