Sweet Home Songs

Original songs and stories from the sell-out 2021 Adelaide Fringe show SWT_HM_ADL and its new 2022 incarnation, Sweet Home SA.

Presented by

Walk the beat with pioneering policewoman Annie Ross in Port Adelaide, re-live the 1931 beef riot, skip through the hills of Clare, help Doctor D hilariously rename the streets of the city, or mourn the loss of iconic department stores and music venues. Commemorate the brave “Diamond Devils” of the 27th Battalion and their families. Reconnect with their journeys, our journey, our home.

Suitable for all ages, Sweet Home Songs is an intimate acoustic performance by award-winning songwriters Doctor D and Fergus Maximus. Full of fun and positivity with a large dose of humour and nostalgic reflection, they ask, ‘Is there a better place to live?”

Review of SWT_HM_ADL: ★★★★ ‘A fine collection of Adelaide songs by people who clearly love the place.’ The Clothesline Digital Arts Magazine.

Doctor D and Fergus Maximus are multi-award-winning songwriters based in Adelaide. They first collaborated in the sell-out Adelaide 2021 Fringe Show SWT_HM_ADL. Since then they have been delighting audiences with their music, stories and amiable on-stage personas.

Over years of visiting South Australia, and now as a resident, guitarist Doctor D’s songs celebrate all that is quirky and fun about South Aussie customs and culture. His music has received accolades from the Songwriters, Composers and Lyricist’s Association and the Judith Crossley Memorial Award.

Fergus Maximus is a soulful singer/storyteller/saxophonist whose melodic songs embrace all the important things- love, loss, mistakes with wit, intelligence and fun. His debut album Restless Soles is an anthology of short stories about characters with itchy feet- their foibles and struggles.
