A novel aspect of the biennial Queensland Music Festival was the Immersion series of hotel bedroom concerts. After a lottery we were fortunate to be in possession of tickets to Adelaide’s Wanderers’ intimate acoustic gig at FV by Peppers in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

Wanderers, Immersion, Queensland Music Festival 2019The 24 guests were welcomed with a glass of Champagne before a brief historical and architectural tour of the building. We were then escorted to the presidential suite where an acoustic three-piece incarnation of Wanderers awaited us under the giant TV screen: Dusty on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Matty on snare drum and an improvised shaker (rice in a water bottle), and Logan on piano.

The 45 minute set included the soulful What I do (in the video), new single Make it on my own, a rousing What about it, and a personal highlight, Dusty’s solo rendition of Unsure Emily. We were a small audience but Wanderers made many new friends, delighted to learn of a forthcoming album.

After the gig we were able to roam at will exploring the luxuries of the suite.
