A novel aspect of the biennial Queensland Music Festival was the Immersion series of hotel bedroom concerts. After a lottery we were fortunate to be in possession of tickets to Adelaide’s Wanderers’ intimate acoustic gig at FV by Peppers in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.
The 24 guests were welcomed with a glass of Champagne before a brief historical and architectural tour of the building. We were then escorted to the presidential suite where an acoustic three-piece incarnation of Wanderers awaited us under the giant TV screen: Dusty on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Matty on snare drum and an improvised shaker (rice in a water bottle), and Logan on piano.
The 45 minute set included the soulful What I do (in the video), new single Make it on my own, a rousing What about it, and a personal highlight, Dusty’s solo rendition of Unsure Emily. We were a small audience but Wanderers made many new friends, delighted to learn of a forthcoming album.
After the gig we were able to roam at will exploring the luxuries of the suite.
