The music of original artists resounded around Hindmarsh Square in Adelaide’s business district on Thursday lunchtime. This collaboration between Adelaide City Council and Music SA offers up and coming local musicians a platform for their creativity and provides entertainment for city workers.
First up for the season, Diamond Skies’ tight harmonies floated over the square melodiously. Excellent songs augmented by an outstanding cover of Liana La Havas’ Forget.
Next Stellie upped the tempo and the decibels with her soulful electro-pop. With influences of Lorde and King Princess and a vocal style reminiscent of Middle Kids’ Hannah Joy, Stellie and her band delighted the crowd with a confident and exuberant set. Heading back to the office afterwards must have been hard.
Food trucks and a music T-shirt sale completed a most enjoyable event in this UNESCO city of music. Next Music in the Square will be on 5 December.
