After the haute couture of the Adelaide Fashion Festival featuring top South Australian designers and elite brands, it was time to take it to the streets.
The Stay and Play street party in Glenelg was a celebration of all that’s on offer in the high street – from fashion to food. If the Fashion Festival beautified parts of the city centre with floral adornments and installations, then today the weather beautified this final act of the Festival’s week long programme. With the sunshine came the crowds in thousands.
The focus of the party was a giant catwalk installed in front of St Andrew’s Church on Jetty Road. This hosted three fashion parades, MC-ed by local social media celebs from Adelady. One show was exclusively for children’s clothes with the other two showing off adult wares. Being a beachside suburb, the emphasis was on the casual and recreational, including beachwear, with all of the modelled clothes and footwear available for purchase at the local shops.
A new liquor licensing policy meant that drinks purchased at the many pop up bars could be consumed anywhere within the party zone, giving the event a greater fluidity. Market stalls, numerous live music stages and sound systems, chill out areas, children’s activities, a dance demonstration, a magic show, and street food vendors made for a relaxing but vibey day out for all. And I got a new pair of shoes – fresh off the catwalk.

Fashion and food is a good combination, along with live music. Enjoy the warmer days.
