The ornate fabrics making up the kimonos, obis (waistbands) and kanzashi (hair ornaments) of these maiko on their graduation to become fully fledged geiko (Kyoto equivalent of geisha) – mere outward symbols of an inner grace.

Beautiful graduation costumes. Intricately beautiful and that is a lovely shade of blue. Very dainty and demure looking ladies and I’m sure they worked hard.

Great interpretation of the theme. Have you thought about tagging your photo challenge post with ‘Weekly photo challenge’? I usually search on that tag in my WordPress reader and scroll though the results – it is much quicker than clicking though all the links on the photo challenge page. It is really interesting to see all the different interpretations of each theme.

Beautiful costumes and graceful pose. I saw many of them in the streets when I visited Japan, it was so original.
