With Adelaide’s east-west grid, look one way towards the beach, the other way towards the hills. Today the hills are invisible from the brooding storm which passed over the city earlier. Turn around to see the fresh light pouring in from over the ocean. Click here for another Look both ways.

Being jet-lagged provided the perfect opportunity to watch the sunrise- and the dawn rush hour. Early morning is the busiest time of day- the esplanade is a superhighway for runners, joggers, cyclists and insomniacs; the beach is awash with strollers, paddlers, photographers, dogs, owners, beachcombers inspecting the morning sea harvest (today hundreds of cuttlefish bones).
